AV Unpacked: ISE 2026 – Why Being There Matters

Every February, the AV industry descends on Barcelona for ISE (Integrated Systems Europe).

I’ve now attended four times and each year I come away with the same thought: if you want to understand where our industry is heading, this is where you need to be.

Not for the spectacle (although there’s plenty of that), but for the clarity it gives you.

What is ISE really about?

ISE brings together AV manufacturers, integrators, consultants and end users from across the globe under one roof at an impressive scale.

Huge LED walls, immersive audio demonstrations and collaboration technology everywhere you look.

But once you get past that, what you’re really doing is assessing the direction in which the industry is moving and asking yourself – what’s genuinely improving, what’s commercially viable and what’s ready for real-world environments.

Why being there matters

At AV One, our clients rely on us to recommend solutions that are right for them, the right fit for their environment, their objectives and their long-term plans.

ISE gives us the opportunity to:

  • See technology before it becomes mainstream
  • Compare competing platforms side by side
  • Ask direct questions about roadmaps, integration and long-term support
  • Spend proper time strengthening relationships with key partners

It keeps us informed and in a fast-moving industry, that’s essential.

The how

Every year, I go with a simple mindset, to find the “golden nugget”.

It’s rarely the biggest stand or the loudest product launch. More often, it’s something more practical – a smarter way to manage systems remotely, a more efficient installation method, improved energy performance, or a platform that integrates better with others.

Small improvements don’t always grab the headlines. But, they can make a real difference to reliability, efficiency and long-term value.

At AV One, we always ask ourselves a few simple questions:

  • Will this genuinely benefit our clients?
  • Will it work in the real world?
  • Is it reliable and supportable long term?
  • Does it integrate properly with existing systems?

We’re not in the business of selling shiny technology. We’re in the business of delivering AV that ‘just works’.

Why it matters to us

The AV industry is evolving quickly…smarter platforms, more collaborations and increasingly intelligent system management.

These are all positive developments, but only when applied properly.  If we don’t stay ahead of that curve, we can’t advise with confidence.

Attending ISE helps us:

  • Protect clients from short-lived trends
  • Strengthen long-term supplier partnerships
  • Plan scalable, future-ready systems
  • Identify efficiencies that improve project delivery
  • Stay confident in the recommendations we make

It reinforces something we talk about often at AV One – getting it right first time.

Final thoughts

This year’s ISE reinforced a few clear themes for me.

Firstly, systems are becoming smarter, not just in terms of features, but in how they’re monitored and managed.

Second, integration is improving. Platforms are talking to each other more effectively, which means a smoother user experience for clients.

Third, energy efficiency and lifecycle planning are moving higher up the agenda. Manufacturers are clearly thinking longer term and so are we. That helps us design systems that are not only fit for today, but that are commercially sensible over five to ten years.

For me, attending ISE isn’t about coming back with a catalogue of new products, it’s about coming back better informed, better equipped to challenge suppliers, better prepared to advise clients and better positioned to design systems that will stand the test of time.
